About Ugarit
Our story
Ugarit Unity Incorporated emerged in response to the dire humanitarian crisis resulting from the situation in Syria. Witnessing the displacement and suffering of countless Syrians seeking refuge in Australia, Mr Ali Ayouch recognised the urgent need for support and assistance within the community. Determined to address these challenges, he founded Ugarit Community Services with a vision of providing holistic support and empowering individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
Mr Ayouch called on experienced community members from various fields and conducted an official meeting on 17 August 2024. Out of that meeting, Ugarit Unity Incorporated was created with a strong team. The attendance and response were overwhelming, demonstrating that people from Syrian backgrounds and refugees truly needed this new initiative. This meeting marked a significant step towards uniting the Syrian community under one banner to create a stronger and more cohesive community.

Our mission is to foster community integration, empower individuals, and facilitate access to essential services, resources, and opportunities. We offer a range of support services, including counselling, casework, referrals, advocacy, community development, and social, cultural, and linguistic support.
Ugarit Unity Incorporated operates under the guidance of a diverse and experienced Board of Management, consisting of professionals from various fields such as community work, welfare, social work, law, education, health, and business. Our commitment is to empower and support all community members, helping them thrive and succeed in their new homeland.

We offer a range of programs, including language education, vocational training, social support, advocacy, disability awareness, and employment assistance. Our employment programs help people understand the Australian job market, apply for jobs, and transfer their skills to benefit Australia. We provide workshops on resume writing, interview techniques, and job searching, along with networking opportunities with local employers.
To strengthen community connections, we also organise social events and activities that bring people together, celebrate culture, and foster a sense of belonging.

About the Name "Ugarit"
Ugarit Unity Inc takes its name from Ugarit, an ancient city located on the Mediterranean coast of modern-day Syria. The name reflects our deep connection to Syrian heritage, knowledge, and the spirit of unity and resilience.
Where was Ugarit?
Ugarit was a powerful port city near today’s Latakia, Syria, thriving between 1450–1200 BCE. It was a major cultural and trade hub, linking civilisations across Egypt, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and the Aegean.
Why is Ugarit important?
- Ugaritic Alphabet: Ugarit gave the world one of the earliest known alphabets, a 30-character cuneiform script that helped shape modern writing systems.
- Cultural Legacy: Ugarit was a melting pot of ideas, language, trade, and religion—connecting diverse cultures and faiths.
